In the tranquil embrace of Cape Panwa, on Phuket's southeastern tip, Amatara Welleisure Resort occupies a verdant hillside overlooking the Andaman Sea. What was once the Regent Cape Panwa has thoughtfully rebranded, carving out a distinct niche as a luxury destination that seamlessly blends traditional tropical holidays with comprehensive, goal-oriented wellness programs. This unique "Welleisure" approach makes it an appealing choice for dedicated spa enthusiasts, couples with differing holiday aims, or families seeking both relaxation and activity.

Arriving after a 45-minute transfer from Phuket International Airport, we were immediately enveloped by the resort's peaceful atmosphere. Lush tropical gardens cascade down the hillside, framing panoramic sea views. The 105 suites and pool villas are tastefully appointed, combining modern comforts with Thai-inspired aesthetics. All accommodations feature private balconies, capitalizing on the stunning coastal setting. We recommend opting for an Ocean View room to guarantee uninterrupted vistas, as some Bay View rooms can be affected by tidal changes.

The Heart of Wellness: Spa and Programs

The soul of Amatara lies within its expansive 2,000m² spa and the diverse wellness offerings it supports. This tranquil space features 12 sea-view treatment rooms and a wide range of holistic therapies. The resort offers structured wellness programs ranging from three to seven nights (or longer), targeting specific goals such as:

  • Detox

  • Weight Management

  • Yoga (including a dedicated Yoga & SUP program)

  • Active Performance / Fusion Fitness

  • De-stress Spa & Wellness

While each program is curated, the attentive wellness team is flexible, allowing guests to tailor schedules and incorporate desired activities or treatments. A standout experience, central to many programs, is the signature Thai Hammam. This multi-step journey offers a gentler, Thai interpretation of the traditional hammam, utilizing heat, steam, exfoliation, and massage to boost immunity and leave skin glowing. A session in the salt relaxation room often follows, enhancing the therapeutic effects.

Movement and Activity

Beyond the spa, Amatara offers a rich schedule of fitness and movement classes, running daily from morning until evening.

  • Studios & Gym: A 24-hour, well-equipped gym is available, alongside a dedicated Pilates reformer studio and spaces for private training.

  • Classes: Group sessions include Yoga (at the sea-view pavilion), Pilates, Muay Thai, TRX, boxing, and kettlebell workouts.

  • Water Sports: Complimentary non-motorized water sports like kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding are available from the resort's small beach, conditions permitting.

  • Expert Guidance: We highly recommend a session with the resident physiotherapist for addressing any specific physical concerns.

Culinary Wellness

Guests participating in wellness programs dine primarily at The Retreat, a dedicated restaurant with its own infinity pool overlooking the ocean. The serene setting complements the cuisine:

  • Healthy Cuisine: The a la carte menu focuses on healthy cuisine inspired by local Thai flavors, featuring fresh, wholefood ingredients. Think nourishing broths, vibrant salads, and lean proteins like the flavorful Tom Kha Gai (Thai coconut soup).

  • Nutrient-Rich Beverages: An array of raw juices and superfood smoothies are available, alongside healthy desserts made without refined sugars.

  • Future Plans: The resort plans to introduce a new executive chef specializing in spa cuisine and expand wellness dining options across its other restaurants, including the award-winning The Grill, allowing program guests more variety while maintaining healthy choices.

Service and Atmosphere

Throughout our stay, the service was notably warm and attentive, embodying Thai hospitality. The staff, a mix of local and international team members, were generally proficient in English and eager to assist, whether arranging transport or accommodating dietary needs. The resort successfully caters to families with a Kids Club, yet maintains distinct adult-oriented spaces like the spa and fitness center, ensuring a peaceful environment for all guests.

Amatara Welleisure Resort occupies a compelling space in Phuket's luxury market. It provides a beautiful, tranquil setting for a relaxing holiday while offering substantial, credible wellness programs and facilities. While still refining its identity as a fully dedicated wellness hotel, its current "Welleisure" model offers a flexible and appealing proposition for travelers seeking both indulgence and self-improvement in a stunning corner of Thailand.
